As of January 1st, 2016 – Home Health and Hospice providers will need to begin utilizing additional G-Codes in order to differentiate Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) on home health and hospice claims. The two codes, G0299 for RNs and G0300 for LPNs, are effective for hospice dates of services on and after January 1, 2016 and for home health episodes ending on or after January 1, 2016. GLMI is placing a check within the Billing Program to ensure that agencies are utilizing an active G-Code, however please know that if your agency is not already utilizing separate G-Codes for RNs and LPNS, agencies will need to manually enter the new codes into their agency’s Support Files (Support File Manager – Service Codes script can be found here). Please also know that agencies will need to be sure they are utilizing separate Service Codes for RNs and LPNs (if not already) and will need to be certain the Service Codes and G-Codes are properly associated. Also, current code G0154: Direct skilled nursing services of a licensed nurse (LPN or RN) in the home health or hospice setting will no longer be valid as of 1/1/16. Agencies will need to enter an expiration date to this code within their agency Support Files.
